Responsibilities In consultation with a multi-disciplinary treatment team, develop and provide activities and groups which will meet individual treatment goals of adolescents in residential and day treatment at Valley Mental Health\'s ARTEC campus. Administer and interpret the Leisure Diagnostic Battery (LDB) for client assessment; ensure safety of activities; able to travel if needed. Prepare equipment and facilities for groups; monitor behavior of adolescents to provide feedback concerning individual treatment goals; administer client evaluation form of skill acquisition; risk management re-evaluation after activity. Train VMH staff in Adult, Child and Infant CPR and First Aid; Train VMH employees in the Mandt System. Run and assist with community groups; perform equipment maintenance on ropes course, canoes, camping gear, etc.; order recreation supplies; set up various school field trips; provide special functions for program.

Recreation Therapist - On Call

Location: UT-Ogden

The Recreational Therapist establishes and implements treatment programs individually designed to facilitate the development, maintenance, and expression of an appropriate leisure lifestyle for patients who have had major physical, emotional or chemical dependency issues.

Coordinates the performance of subjective and objective initial and ongoing evaluations of patient's according to diagnosis, past history, and physician referral. Facilitates the assessment and re-assessment of the patient's physical and emotional problems and needs for recreational therapy as determined by history and results of evaluation procedures. Assures the definition of realistic goals for rehabilitation following assessment of specific problems. Designs, implements, and continuously modifies therapy.

Participates in inservice and continuing education opportunities. Is active in team building and attends staff meetings/inservices. Provides the supervision and evaluation of performance of student interns, or technicians who may be providing recreational therapy to patients in psychiatry. Continually communicates with patients, families, physicians, nurses, other hospital personnel staff regarding individual patient's needs, abilities,goals, and programs. Actively participates in team conferences and in family conferences and training.

Responsible for the documentation of evaluations, assessments, and procedures in accordance with hospital, professional, state regulations and JCAHO standards.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy required. Current TRS license in the state of Utah required or license eligible. Current BLS Health Care Provider certification for all age groups. National Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist is preferred. Experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team is preferred. Behavioral/mental health experience is preferred.

New Haven

New Haven is a residential treatment center for adolescent girls and their families. We are family focused, clinically sophisticated and values based. Our philosophy is based upon principles of Family, Love, Locus of Control, Selflessness, Values and Spirituality. We have 64 beds, which are split between two campuses; one in Spanish Fork, UT and the other in Saratoga Springs, UT.

Recreational Therapists provide 4-6 weekly RT sessions and 2 general groups as needed. Keep progress notes in a timely professional manner. Attend and participate in weekly treatment team meetings. Complete the RT section of each master treatment plan for each student. Plan, assist and/or lead company ceremonies. Plan and implement 1-2 long Saturdays a month. Assist with activities during family weekend at both campuses. Other duties as assigned.

National RT Certification and Utah State TRS are required along with a Bachelors Degree in Recreational Management. Understanding of laws regarding documentation, reporting and confidentiality is essential. Applicant must have skills in discernment, therapeutic theory and intervention, communicating concepts and expectations. Must also, be able to plan and implement RT sessions. It is vital to hold appropriate boundaries with students and parents and to assess and interpret student behavior.

SVAS is seeking a full-time recreational therapist to lead various programs for children, teens, and adults with physical, developmental, behavior and learning disabilities. SVAS also provides therapeutic programming for service members wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan. This position provides opportunities to be outdoors to provide summer and winter programming.
