Qualifications

Recreational Therapists must have one of the following:

  • Current licensure to practice as a Master Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (MTRS) in the State of Utah.

  • Current licensure to practice as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (TRS) in the State of Utah.

* Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.

  • Two years of related experience.

  • Current Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card through American Heart Association or obtain one within one month of hire.

Program Manager, Adult Day Services - Neighborhood House

The mission of Neighborhood House is to enrich, empower and educate children and adults through quality, affordable day care and support services. Our Adult Day Services (ADS) program serves aging and disabled adults with a therapeutic recreational day program. The Program Manager is primarily responsible to develop and implement quality programming to meet a range of ability levels. The successful candidate will maintain current Utah license or certification and manage all recreational therapy for the site, track and update client progress goals, and support ongoing communication between clients, caregivers, and the center. Other duties include oversight of program staff performance, compliance with the budget for program supplies and contracted services, and assistance to the Program Director in facilitating resolution of staff concerns.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the program’s day to day functioning and the comprehensive care and well-being of our program participants.

  • Assist the Program Director with developing and reviewing quality assurance procedures.

  • Differentiate and implement both high and low functioning programs for approximately 60 clients

  • Develop, monitor, and update individualized care plans for each client, including developing client care goals and measurable outcomes for the person-centered objectives.

  • Communicate with family & caregivers for Incident & Behavior Reports when necessary.

  • Set and conduct family & caregiver conferences

  • Provide daily written schedule for staff to carry out calendar activities

  • Complete and distribute monthly activity calendar by the 25th of every month

Required Qualifications and Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Current Certified Recreational Therapist (CTRS or MTRS) license in the state of Utah REQUIRED.

  • Current, valid State of Utah Driver’s License.

  • Ability to train and drive a 12-15 passenger van.

  • Demonstrated ability to physically assist clients with ambulating, toileting, dressing, lifting 50 lbs. or more, feeding, and other needs as assigned.

  • Communicate effectively in English, with proficiency in Spanish preferred.

  • Pass a Utah Department of Human Services BCI (Background Screening), and drug screening.

  • Provision of individual work release physical within 30 days of hire.

  • Demonstrated desire to care for people, including the frail elderly and/or other adults who are unable to live independently.

  • Experience with staff management, regarding program implementation and performance goals.

Recreation Therapist (CTRS)- CENTER FOR CHANGE

The Center is seeking a part-time Recreation Therapist (8 hours/week) to collaborate with the Center's multidisciplinary treatment team in providing leisure-skill building, service learning, and outdoor leisure education experiences to patients. Recreation Therapists are required to transport patients using company vehicles. To qualify to drive company vehicles Dietitians must consent to a driving record check, and must:

-- have no more than 3 moving violations during the past three (3) years; and,

We are searching for a full time Recreational Therapist who will be responsible for planning, organizing and conducting recreational therapy program for assigned units.

As a recreation therapist, you will have a caseload of 25-30 residents, and you will be conducting psychoeducational groups, ropes course groups, adventure outings, service outings and community outings.

You will work a Tuesday-Saturday schedule and your days will generally start around 8am and end at 4pm, but that can/will flex depending on the needs of the department and the needs of your caseload. You will be expected to attend all meetings and trainings related to your job and your caseload. On Saturdays the days tend to be different depending on the outings that are being conducted. You will be required to work at least 2 Saturdays per month, but sometimes it will be 3 Saturdays per month, depending on the needs of the department.


Qualifications

  • You are required to be certified by NCTRC and hold a current CTRS certification, as well as be licensed as a TRS through DOPL in the state of Utah.

Pivot Adventure offers a resiliency training course that helps students develop skills to navigate life's challenges. Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in recreation therapy. Must have Utah licensure and certification, State licensure (TRS) and national certification (CTRS). Must have minimum 2-3 years’ previous experience in the TR field. Previous experience working in wilderness therapy or with clients in a wilderness setting a bonus.

  • Must maintain First Aid & CPR certifications and Crisis Intervention training.

  • Must have at least 12 months prior of outdoor climbing experience. Ability to comfortably lead 5.9 sport climbs outside.

  • Preferred to have led a minimum of 50 traditional routes, most of which should at least be 5.6 and on a variety of rock types.

  • This position is for current, active rock climbers who have a real desire to teach rock climbing to novices in a single pitch setting. Certification of Single Pitch Instructor (SPI) from AMGA (or equivalent) is highly preferred. Rock climbing is by far our most common adventure we offer our students.

  • Ability to set variety of sport climbing anchors using quickdraws, cordalettes and occasional cams.

  • Great interpersonal skills. Ability to speak Spanish a bonus. Must be willing to read at least 12 non-fiction books on their own to learn the Pivot Adventure Curriculum.

  • Develop Recreation Therapy program from the ground up including documentation for both private pay and scholarship program. Set up a goal for students to work on, use a "theory" and/or a "mode or model" to help them reach that goal. Implement RASP survey for students to track improvement of resiliency course.

  • Recruit, train, lead, mentor, and evaluate Recreation Therapy Interns and work as liaison with local Utah colleges.

  • Social media literate a bonus. Including the use of Instagram and Facebook to promote Pivot Adventure programs.

  • Quick response to guides, management, and parents. Ability to accept feedback, internalize it and improve. Excellent level of professionalism is a must.

  • Willingness to obtain Community Peer Support Service certification through DHS if needed.

This is a part-time position with room for growth based on the success of this position and Pivot Adventure as a whole. We are small, local nonprofit looking to make a big impact. This position begins at $17 per hour while on probation (at least two rounds of classes to evaluate candidates fit to Pivot Adventure). Once past evaluation, if candidate is asked to stay on they will get at a pay bump up to $20 per hour. Yearly raises subsequently after. Position hours vary. In general, programs run 8 weeks at a time with a couple weeks off in between the start of the next set of programs from January to Thanksgiving. During program times there are opportunities to work 15-29 per week. This position works evenings from 2:30 pm - 8:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

OVERVIEW

Responsibilities:

• Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the activity programs of this facility.

• Assist in the development, administering, and coordinating of department policies and procedures.

• Keep abreast of current federal and state regulations, as well as professional standards, and make recommendations on changes in policies and procedures to the Administrator.

• Review department policies and procedures, at least annually, and participate in making recommended changes (e.g., ADA, ergonomics, air quality, etc.).

• Develop and implement policies and procedures for the identification of medically related activity needs of the resident.

• Participate in community planning related to the interests of the facility and the services and needs of the resident and family.

• Participate in discharge planning, development, and implementation of activity care plans and resident assignments.

• Interview resident/families as necessary and in a private setting.

• Perform administrative requirements, such as completing necessary forms, reports, etc., and submitting such to the Administrator as required.

• Involve residents and families in planning facility activity programs.

• Assist in arranging transportation to other facilities when necessary.

• Interpret the department’s policies and procedures to employees, residents, visitors, government agencies, etc.

• Keep abreast of economic conditions/situations and recommend to the Administrator adjustments in activity programs that assure the continued ability to provide daily activities.

• Review and develop a plan of correction for activity deficiencies noted during survey inspections and provide a written copy of such report to the Administrator.

• Assist the Infection Control Coordinator in identifying, evaluating, and classifying routine and job related activity functions to ensure that tasks involving potential exposure to blood/body fluids are properly identified and recorded.

• Review departmental complaints and grievances from personnel and make written reports to the Administrator of action(s) taken. Follow facility’s established procedures.

• Assist the Quality Assessment & Assurance Committee in developing and implementing appropriate plans of action to correct identified deficiencies.

• Develop, implement, and maintain an ongoing quality assurance program for the activity department.

• Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies.

• Interview residents or family members to obtain activity information.

• Ensure that all charted activity progress notes are informative and descriptive of the services provided and of the resident’s response to the service.

• Maintain a reference library of written material, laws, etc., necessary for complying with current standards and regulations, and that will provide assistance in maintaining a quality activity program.

• Involve the resident/family in planning objectives and goals for the resident.

• Meet with the administration, medical and nursing staff, as well as other related departments in planning activity programs.
